Susan's Story

susan bodie dancing balletInitially from Vancouver, Susan began her dance training at the age of 7. Inspired by an aunt who had danced in New York, performed across the United States, and opened a dance school in California, Susan always knew she wanted to be a ballet dancer.

With the fame of Rudolf Nureyev and the defections of additional Russian Stars Mikhail Baryshnikov and Alicia Makarova, ballet was exploding in popularity in the 1970's and 80's.

Dancing with the National Ballet at this time meant touring throughout North America and Europe, performing in ballets such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, and La Sylphide with the likes of Rudolf Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Carla Fracci, and Erik Bruhn at such famed venues as La Scala in Milan, The Metropolitan in New York, the Deutsches Theatre in Berlin, and the Royal Opera House in London. Susan also toured South and Central America in 1977 with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.

In 1981, Susan danced in an episode of the hit TV comedy series The Wayne & Shuster Superspecial. The episode is called “The Swan Lake Murders,” and posted below is an excerpt showing Susan in the role of second Prima Ballerina Natasha Holubcha.

After 10 years of dancing with the National Ballet, Susan left and co-founded Canada’s Ballet Jörgen, where she worked as director of administration for several years.

In 1988, Susan expanded her career path further, venturing into real estate with the brokerage firm Darrell Kent. This career change was inspired by the recent experience of buying her first home, which made her want to help other people achieve that same feeling of excitement in owning a place of their own.

Case in point(e), Susan won Rookie of the Year at Darrel Kent.

In 1998, Susan joined the family-owned brokerage Bosley Real Estate Ltd., drawn not only by its personable culture and distinguished character, but also because its many branches in Toronto's core would serve her expanding clientele well.

Over the past 25 years with Bosley, Susan has achieved a consistent track record of success, winning many sales accolades; but her most cherished honour of all was receiving the William Statten award, which recognizes exemplary service of the highest professionalism, integrity, and virtue.
